The Teen Conflict Resoluation and Career Planning Group provides
social skills training to 10-20 teens (ages 12-18) each semester. The
staff consists of 2 trained, lead counselor (graduate students in
Social Work) and 2 undergraduate students. Teens learn the prerequisite
skills to harmonious peer and family relations: self-reflection, values
clarification, goal setting, emotion regulation, respectful, assertive
communication, active listening, development of “win-win” solutions,
and conflict de-escalation and resolution. They explore college and
career options.
They also learn to convey their new skills to peers and younger
children inside and outside the program through instructional/mentoring
services. They use academic skills (writing, reading, computer and
design) to develop instructional materials (e.g., board-games and
computer-simulations). They stage informational “peace fairs”, dramas
and puppet-plays for younger children. Fridays, 5:30-8:00 p.m.; UH
